North America's Galápagos
Established in 1980, Channel Islands National Park encompasses 249,561 acres of land and sea, including five of the eight California Channel Islands. Located off the coast of southern California, the park includes Santa Cruz, Anacapa, Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara Islands.
The islands' isolation has created unique opportunities for evolution, fostering distinctive plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth. The surrounding marine environment protects a rich array of sea life, including kelp forests, seals, sea lions, and whales.
